The questions we get asked, answered the way we answer them on the phone
Does smart glass help with heat or wildfire smoke?
No, and anyone telling you otherwise is overselling it. It does not filter smoke and it does very little about heat. What it does is let you close a room off visually without losing the daylight. If heat is the problem, solar control tint is the cheaper and better answer, and we will tell you that.
What ruins smart film fastest?
Ordinary blue window cleaner. Ammonia degrades the outer layer and the adhesive, and it is in most household glass sprays. Use a neutral pH cleaner on a soft cloth, spray the cloth rather than the glass, and keep liquid away from the edges.
Can it go on a skylight?
It can, and we will tell you what you are buying. An unshaded Los Angeles skylight reaches 140 to 165°F, and heat is what degrades the switchable layer, so expect 6 to 9 years there against 12 to 15 on an interior partition. It is genuinely good at glare and privacy from above. It will not fix a hot room.
What happens in a power cut?
The glass goes opaque. For a nap room or a bathroom that is fine. For a supervision window or a classroom it removes the sight line at the wrong moment, which is why we keep those openings fixed and clear and make only the private rooms switchable.
Do you work outside Los Angeles?
Across the LA metro, Orange County, Ventura County, and separately in San Jose and the South Bay. If you are outside those, tell us where and we will say honestly whether it is worth the trip.
